Beverly Fullerton

I am a 41-year-old Metis woman born and raised in Saskatoon. My family’s roots are from Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. I am a survivor of child abuse, sexual abuse, foster care system, juvenile incarceration, prostitution, domestic violence, drug addiction (I will be honouring 11 years drug-free in June 2023). I am an ex-gang member and I have served time in a federal penitentiary.

I am a mother to seven children, one who passed away at just a mere 6 months old to a mis-diagnosis due to racism in the emergency healthcare system. I have survived intergenerational trauma; witnessing the disfunction and toxicity of a family that did not know how to heal. I am that cycle breaker!!

10 years ago, I was placed on a path where I was forced to choose survival, death, or change. I chose change, and I was fortunate to have met a support system that believed in me, wrapped me in services, held my hand and helped me face many systemic barriers.

I am currently employed with Metis Nation Saskatchewan as the Executive Special Projects Coordinator. Prior to MNS, I was employed at CLASSIC Law, as the Community Justice Liaison and Front-Line Worker. And prior to CLASSIC, I was the Integration Worker at the Elizabeth Fry Society of Saskatchewan for almost 3 years working with women integrating back into the community from both provincial and federal institutions. I am also enrolled in my 2nd year of university at the First Nation University of Canada in the Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work degree program. Working in the community, I have gained a lot of knowledge, respect and a network of diverse people that are like minded for change! My dedication, determination and resilience is proof that change is possible and everyone is worthy and deserving of a good life.
